On July 23, 2018, Harris County Judge Armando Rodriguez issued an Order concluding that there was no "probable cause" to tow the tenants' vehicle from the apartment complex lot where they resided. The landlord was ordered to repay all costs of towing and storage paid by the tenants, in addition to attorney's fees and court costs.
The laws surrounding towing protect consumers from unauthorized and unlawful towing. There are many requirements the tow requester, tow truck, and storage facilities must strictly abide by - everything from the content and font on the towing signs from licensing is regulated by state law. If you've been the victim of a bad tow, you may be entitled to compensation, including the return of your vehicle and/or reimbursement of the fees you paid to get it out.
